What Happens If You Miss a Klarna Payment?

Short version: Klarna gives you 10 days after the due date before anything happens. If the payment is still unpaid after that, Klarna can charge up to $7, and total late fees on one order never exceed 25% of what you bought.

The grace period, precisely

Klarna's US Pay in 4 agreement says the late fee is charged only if the payment remains unpaid 10 days after the due date. That is more forgiving than it sounds: most providers start the clock immediately. If you pay on day 9, no fee.

The fee cap that matters

Total late fees per order are capped at 25% of the total purchase amount. On a $100 order, you will never pay more than $25 in late fees no matter how many payments go late. On a $40 order, the most you can owe in fees is $10.

What Klarna does not do

Klarna's Pay in 4 does not appear on your credit file, so a late payment does not directly hit your credit score. But Klarna can pause your account, block new plans, and send the balance to collections, and collections can appear on your report. Late fees caused by Klarna's own error are waived or refunded.

How to fix a missed payment fast

One, pay the missed installment immediately in the app. Two, if this is your first miss, message support and ask for a courtesy waiver. Keep it short: state the order, note it is your first miss, confirm you have paid. Three, check whether a second payment is about to auto-charge, and make sure the money is there. Stacked auto-charges on an empty account turn a $7 fee into a bank overdraft fee too.
